Join Me on My Quest
Don’t you know who I am?
Probably not, so please allow me to introduce myself. I’m Daniel Sherrier, author of (so far) two superhero novels, and this is my quest for pop culture.
Pop culture may not be the most important thing in the world, but it’s the most fun way to make sense of the world. It’s our modern mythology. Some of it will endure for countless generations to come, and some … won’t. I’m much more interested in the former. But whether we’re examining why something does work or why it doesn’t, we can learn a lot.
So, I’ll be exploring comic books, movies, TV shows, novels, and perhaps even some nonfiction, and I’ll write about writing. I certainly don’t know everything, and that’s kind of the point—to always keep learning, which we do by not merely consuming but also examining.
Why is something good? Why is something almost good but kind of frustrating? Why is a good idea falling flat?
I have zero interest in being mean, and the last thing I want to be is a provocateur. If I’m criticizing something, I’ll be searching for lessons that I and other writers can apply to our own work. Personal attacks are never productive. I’m under no delusions that my own books have achieved perfection.
Speaking of which … I’ll occasionally post updates about my own work, too.
My Novels
I launched the Terrific series a few years, beginning with The Flying Woman.
The basic idea of the first novel is: How do you act like a perfect person when you know you’re only human? Miranda, a young aspiring actress, gains super-powers and must figure out how to become a selfless superhero even though she feels nowhere near qualified.
The sequel, The Silver Stranger, stars Miranda’s best friend, Alyssa, who hates the whole idea of superheroes and super-powers. She believes such powers should not exist—they’re too dangerous and unpredictable and not meant for fallible humans to wield. So, Alyssa teams up with a supervillain to try to erase all super-powers and restore normalcy to the world.
