Normally I dislike historical fiction that is anachronistically trying to make a point about modern life, but I loved "The Once and Future King." Of course, Merlin could see into the future, which explained some things, but most of all the characters of Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere are so human and alive that it's easy to get caught up in their story and just forget what century we happen to be visiting in order to witness it.
