And the Quest for Pop Culture
These posts are not traditional reviews, though they may resemble them sometimes. I’m examining something I enjoyed or wanted to enjoy and attempting to glean storytelling lessons from it.
This is not writing advice either. I’m teaching myself and reminding myself, Oh, yeah, I need to remember to do something like that … but not that. It’s like my own DIY super-informal graduate project. I always welcome differing opinions.
I’m definitely not getting into any speculation, gossip, or politics. If I’m criticizing something, I’m criticizing the work, not the person.
Terrific
Terrific is my original superhero prose series. It began as two novels, The Flying Woman and The Silver Stranger, and it continues here as a series of shorter stories that build on each other. The serialized stories are designed to work for those who haven’t read the novels as well as those who have.
The goal is to present flawed but aspirational superheroes while combining the strengths of prose fiction with the strengths of classic comics. No one is born purely virtuous, and acting like a perfect superhero can be a challenge when you’re only human.

Schedule
Pop culture commentary sends three Fridays per month. (I encourage you to browse the archives at any time, as many posts are evergreen.)
Terrific publishes on Sundays, with the occasional skip week or short hiatus between stories.
I may occasionally publish stand-alone fiction or play scripts along the way, but not too often. You should never receive more than two emails from me in a single week.
You can customize the emails you receive by adjusting your account settings (e.g., uncheck “Terrific” to stop receiving stories in that series but still receive the pop culture posts).
