The second one wasn't terrible, I thought; the scene with the giant mom at the end is just hilarious. The third one, though, I agree. The only part I liked is where the dentist guy pretends to be the voice of God using the stereo. Funny stuff.

That's fair. The second one does completely embrace the absurdity of the premise, so that's probably a better way of viewing it. I still much prefer the original, though.

I probably need to go back and watch the original again: the main thing I remember is the sound the ant made when it died. It *haunts* me....

I agree with Michael. The sequel was maybe my second or third ever movie at the movie theater and I’m more forgiving about its shortcomings. But this is a great review! I think I prefer the original too. Such a wholesome and light adventure for kids.

Thanks! Seems like there could be a whole category of "I know it really wasn't that great, but dammit, I had fun watching it" sort of movies. And that's completely valid.

Haha. So true. I think I feel that way about a lot of family adventures like Jumanji and Home Alone 2 and this might be heresy in some circles, but The Sandlot too

I have studied and written about animation on television, so I can testify to the sad overuse of real-world scientific non-entities like the shrink ray often.
