I'm old but I think part of the entertainment value is no CGI, which just gives a realness to things you dont see now. There might have been a digital or manual touch up in a scene here or there, but nothing like now.

The train/bus crash was, so far as I know, by buying a train and a bus and crashing them. I remember reading an expose at the time with the Director talking about having 20 cameras going because there was only one take to be had. If that was made now thered be cartoon tires and fire flying towards the audience pov and the bus would flipped up in the air 3 times and yadda yadda.

Yeah, creating a hit in the moment is impressive enough, but a hit that stands the test of time is truly something special.
